Four research nurses conduct trials at the request of Monash Health nephrologists and external pharmaceutical companies. Research areas comprise haemodialysis, kidney transplantation, peritoneal dialysis and pre-dialysis.

Monash Health nephrology patients are invited to volunteer to participate in the clinical trials. The results of their trials determine whether a new therapeutic approach can be introduced to the marketplace.

All trials are approved by Human Research Ethics Committee of Monash Health and are scrutinised for participant’s rights and safety.

Presently, 24 trials are being undertaken and terms range from two to seven years. This form of research commenced in 2002.
