A/Prof Alberta Hoi

Alberta Hoi is the Head of Monash Lupus Clinic, and Associate Professor in the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash University. Her role encompasses ward patient care, outpatient clinic duties, mentorship and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in clinical research.

Alberta specialises in systemic lupus erythematosus and other connective tissue diseases such as Sjogren, dermatomyositis, and vasculitis. She has a keen interest in transition care and optimising pregnancy in SLE.

Her current research focusses on disease predictors, comorbidities, and patient perspectives. She is the chair of the Australian Lupus Registry & Biobank and sits on the Asia Pacific Lupus Collaborative executive steering committee, as well as the OMERACT working groups for SLE and Sjogren core set domains for clinical trials. Her work has been supported by grants from Arthritis Australia, Perpetual IMPACT philanthropy program, Medical Research Future Fund, and industry partners. She was the recipient of the Australian Rheumatology Association President Prize’s for Collaborative Research. She is principal investigator for multiple Phase 2/3 SLE trials, including the Australian rheumatology lead for the first CAR-T therapy trial.
