Psychology

Psychologists at Monash Health work with patients, families and other staff to assist with the psychological, emotional and behavioural challenges faced by people who access our health service.

We are the largest psychology workforce in the Victorian public health service with up to 200 psychologists employed at Monash Health. Our psychology workforce spans all career stages across a diverse range of expertise. We have a robust professional governance structure with all Monash Health psychologists delivering excellence in clinical practice supported by a professional directorate and senior leadership group of psychologists.

What we do

  • Assessment, diagnosis, formulation and treatment
  • Collaborative and recovery oriented care

  • Research and quality improvement
  • Working as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.

Our Psychologists work across a range of programs and speciality services:

  • Monash Children’s Hospital, including eating disorders, medical and surgical wards, Children’s Cancer Centre, Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre, cystic fibrosis and neurodevelopmental clinics
  • Mental Health program, including perinatal, child and adolescent, youth, adult & aged in inpatient, community and rehabilitation services
  • Acute speciality medicine and surgery, including oncology, renal and cardiac care
  • Subacute medical wards, including physical rehabilitation, and aged care
  • Community based services, including speciality clinics such as the Neuropsychology Outpatient Unit, Gender Clinic, Pain Management Clinic, Movement Disorders Program, Cognitive Dementia and Memory Service and Infectious Diseases.
  • Other services including Refugee Health, SECASA; Child, Youth and Family Services, Forensic Services and Complex Care.

How to access psychology services

We do not have direct referral to a psychology department. Psychologists are embedded across Monash Health in clinical teams. If you are accessing another service within Monash Health, please discuss a referral to Psychology with a member of your treating team.

All psychologists at Monash Health are provided with regular supervision.

There are opportunities for secondments across program to broaden experience and expertise.

New graduates are supported through the Psychology New Graduate and Registrar program which offers additional group supervision and professional development and meets the requirements for psychologists seeking endorsement.

Experienced psychologists have opportunities to develop technical, supervision and leadership skills.
