Dandenong Hospital has welcomed its first McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurse in Feburary 2018 and is offering free support to patients and their families. Katie Evans will help patients with complete care programs including support groups and emotional resilience worskops.
Katie has worked in numerous roles for Monash Health including Clinical Nurse Consultant/Associate Nurse Unit Manager of the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Dandenong, Acting Unit Manager, Breast Care, and leave relief for Breast Care Nurses and a Metastic Breast Cancer Nurse Practitioner.
In addition to this, Katie has coordinated many breast caner trials as an oncology research nurse. Katie is dedicated to the promotion of patient centred care, the provision of a high quality service to cancer patients and their relatives through education, and the provision of information and support. Her drive, interpersonal and leadership skills will have positive outcomes to those patients and relatives with a breast cancer diagnosis in the Dandenong and Casey catchment areas for Monash Health.
“Being there from the start and supporting the patient throughout allows for holistic care and I really liked the idea of that” she said.
