I’ve been working for Monash now for almost 13 years. In my role, I’ve been a Patient Service Assistant, a trainer for new PSAs and environmental, and now I’m a Team Leader. Here at Dandenong Hospital, we have a couple of hundred people that are required to keep the hospital service at the standard it needs to be. It is as important a role as every other role within the hospital.Â
I had never worked in healthcare before I started here, and I was just looking for something different, something to challenge me. I thought, why not? And, yeah, I haven’t looked back since. I started off with a traineeship that went for 12 months. Once I finished that, I went casual for a couple of months, then I applied and got permanent as a PSA. Throughout that, I worked in various wards, upskilling to do some training with other new staff that came through. Then I went on and applied for Team Leader. I’m in the office as well as on the floor. So I get there, help out with some rosters, then I will visit the wards. So it’s good.Â
Each day is different. I think I’ve really enjoyed it because there are different things that you do as a role, as a PSA, and that’s what I like. Anyone that’s thinking of coming to Monash Health as either a Patient Services Assistant or in Environmental, give it a go. I didn’t know where I’d be once I started. Working with Monash, being so big, you’ve got opportunities to work at different sites, because being different sites, different challenges, different size hospitals as well.Â
It’s a great environment to be in. You make lots of friends, whether it’s fellow staff members; it’s a great place to be.Â
