Alternative options to the emergency department

Our emergency departments continue to experience high demand, lengthening wait times for patients with non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.

We want members of our community to receive timely care in the right place.

To this end, Monash Health has produced a video to inform the community about the range of healthcare services available to assist people with non-urgent injuries and illnesses.

If you need care but it is not an emergency, please consider these alternative pathways to care:

  • Attend a Priority Primary Care Centre
  • Consult the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department
  • Telephone NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24
  • See a GP

For more information on alternative services for non-urgent care, please visit: https://monashhealth.org/patients-visitors/emergency-departments/#alternative

In a life-threatening medical emergency, please call Triple Zero (000) or attend the emergency department.

Please note that from 27 August 2024 until late October, Clayton Road is completely closed to all non-emergency traffic between Monash Medical Centre and Haughton Road, just south of the railway line.Learn more
