Caring for our Community: Murrumbek Casey Early Parenting Centre

This month, Monash Health welcomed the Minister for Children, the Hon. Lizzie Blandthorn MP and her parliamentary colleagues, Pauline Richards MP, Jordan Crugnale MP, and Lee Tarlamis MP, to the new Murrumbek Casey Early Parenting Centre to meet our employees and see the wonderful care the team provides to the community firsthand.

The Murrumbek Casey Early Parenting Centre opened its doors to the community in January this year and is supporting families with sleep, settling, feeding, strengthening parent-child relationships, as well as their overall wellbeing.

“Over the last three months, we have received close to 300 referrals and welcomed 140 families into our service and supported them to enhance their relationships and meet their parenting goals,” said Jackie Hopley, Nurse Manager, Murrumbek Casey Early Parenting Centre.

“The feedback from families has been fantastic and we are pleased that the support and programs in our service are making such a positive impact.”

There has been significant engagement with the community and local area to inform the model of care and reflect the culturally and linguistically diverse population in the catchment.

Last month an Open Day was hosted at the centre, welcoming community members and leaders to see how their recommendations have been implemented to ensure accessibility and inclusiveness for all families. We continue to work with the community to provide an environment where all families can feel safe, comfortable and at home.

The centre’s Aboriginal name ‘Murrumbek’, means ‘belong’ in the Bunurong language, the Traditional Owners of the land where the centre is located.
