This month Monash Health welcomes 13 Intern Pharmacists as they embark on the transition from student life to clinical experience.
The interns will undertake a structured 12-month training program of operational and clinical rotations, completing a minimum of 15 rotations across a variety of sites and units.
Based at Monash Medical Centre for her first rotation, Intern, Maryam Salman, says that experience across many of the Monash Health sites holds a lot of appeal for her.
“I’m most looking forward to seeing all the different clinical wards and going to all the different hospitals that Monash Health has, and experiencing the different teams within that,” she says.
“I’m looking forward to the variety of it all because Monash has a lot to offer.”
Intern, Sai Potluri, agrees.
“We were very thoroughly and well supported in our introduction [to the intern program], not only at one hospital, but a couple now,” says Sai.
“It’s been very exciting because of that, because you feel comfortable around new faces, and you feel like you’re already part of the family here even though it’s just been a week.”
The internship program will provide Interns with foundational skills and experience to commence working as registered pharmacists at the end of the internship year, leading to limitless growth opportunities available in quality, governance, research and education programs.
Interns will also undertake a university-based qualification and will sit an oral and written exam to receive general registration as a pharmacist.
Sai says the transition to internship has been smooth so far.
“It’s been a fantastic introduction. I feel very supported for the year that’s to come.”
