Statistics from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation reveal that in Australia approximately 14 per cent of 12 to 17-year-olds have experimented with e-cigarettes, and a concerning 32 per cent of these students have used them in the past month.
On 2 May, Australian Minister for Health Mark Butler announced a vaping reform to prohibit vaping products’ sale, supply, and recreational use while still allowing access for those who rely on them for medical purposes.
It is already illegal to sell vaping products to individuals under the age of 18 years. However, the challenge lies in effectively educating, regulating and monitoring this reform. According to recent data from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, most students who use e-cigarettes acquire them from friends (63 per cent), while 12 per cent purchase them themselves, and 8 per cent obtain them from siblings.
The Victorian Smoking and Health Survey conducted by Cancer Council Victoria’s Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer, funded by VicHealth, reveals that young Victorians aged 18-30 years comprise the most significant proportion of current e-cigarette users (54 per cent).
Join this free online webinar on Tuesday, 6 June at 7pm. It offers an invaluable opportunity to gain knowledge, guidance, and the tools necessary to effectively tackle the issue of vaping among young individuals.
