WATCH: Professor Rhonda Stuart on the importance of third doses

Professor Rhonda Stuart, Director of the Monash Health South East Public Health Unit, appeared today at the Victorian Government’s press conference to explain why third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are so important, especially for protection against the Omicron variant.

“I’ve seen media, social media chats about maybe just getting COVID and getting it over and done with,” said Professor Stuart.

“My advice would be that is not the way to go. We are seeing people, young, fit, healthy people, being admitted to hospital with Omicron.

“We are seeing people being admitted to ICU with Omicron, but also we’re seeing people very sick in the community, being bed-bound, having high fevers, shaking chills, terrible muscle aches. I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone.”

The Victorian Government announced that the COVID-19 vaccine third dose (booster) interval has been reduced to 3 months in Victoria.

As part of a state-wide third dose blitz, walk-in appointments (no booking required) will be available this weekend at Monash Health’s Sandown Racecourse Vaccination Centre.
