Officer City Soccer Club leads the way

Officer City Soccer Club recently became the first club to complete five health areas in Healthy Sports Clubs. Over the last 12 months, the club has worked on the Injury Prevention and Sun Protection health areas.

They implemented a total of 36 new healthy actions, including:

  • Offering first aid training to members
  • Purchasing a one-off defibrillator for the club
  • Using the FIFA 11 for all team’s warm-ups
  • Adopting an injury prevention policy
  • Buying and providing sunscreen at the club to members
  • Offering team hats as part of their club uniform
  • And adding the SunSmart UV widget to the club website.

The club first registered for Healthy Sports Clubs in 2019 before beginning the Healthy Food & Beverages area in 2021. After completing this health area in 2022, the club followed up this success by working on the Smoke & Vape Free Clubs and Mental Wellness areas from 2022-23.

The club is now working on its sixth health areaInclusion Women & Girls. Within this area, it hopes to implement actions that will support women and girls’ participation at the club, such as holding a reduced-fee, off-season social program designed for women.

This case highlights the success of clubs that persevere through the years and continue championing and sustaining healthy and inclusive behaviours.

Congratulations to Officer City Soccer Club.
