Emergency services information

Monash Health’s emergency services treat over 150,000 patients per annum, learn more about the services provided across our main sites.

As our sites provide different services it’s recommended that GPs consider the likelihood of admission and send the patient to the hospital with the required inpatient service to prevent secondary transfers.

Important notes for GPs

  •  There is no Emergency Department at Moorabbin. These patients can be seen at any of the three EDs and transferred if requiring admission.
  • Patients with conditions requiring urgent intervention, such as PCI for Acute Myocardial Infarction, or Thrombolysis for acute stroke, should be sent immediately to MMC, Clayton
  • Orthopaedic patients who can be managed in the Emergency department without inpatient admission; eg Colles’ fracture, simple limb fractures, dislocated shoulders; can be managed at all three EDs, but will be followed up in Outpatients at Dandenong Hospital
  • Orthopaedic patients will not be admitted to Casey Hospital. Those Orthopaedic patients who obviously need inpatient admission should be referred to MMC, Clayton or Dandenong Hospital.
