Monash Medical Centre P: 9594 5032
Monash Medical Centre has a 24 hour Pregnancy Assessment Unit for urgent maternal and fetal assessment.
Women more than 20 weeks gestation can be referred for conditions requiring immediate assessment. Women that used to be referred to Birth Suite for obstetric assessment can now be assessed in this unit.
This unit should be the GP’s first point of call for women booked to birth at MMC in urgent or complex situations.
Referral is recommended for:
- Pre-eclampsia (blood pressure monitoring and pathology)
- Preterm ROM
- Antepartum hemorrhage
- Threatened Premature labour
- Intractable Vomiting
- Jaundice or severe pruritis
- Hypertension (systolic BP 140mmHg and/or diastolic BP > 90mmHg )
- Obstetric assessment
All women are triaged through the Pregnancy Assessment Unit and then sent to Birth Suite if appropriate. All women are to contact and present to PAU.
This is not an exhaustive list. GPs are encouraged to phone the unit to discuss any concerns and how they should be managed. The outcome of each visit will be documented on the patient’s hand held record.
