Monash Health Interpreting Service (SHIS) is established primarily as a support mechanism to assist health professionals in communicating with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) patients where language is a barrier.  SHIS provides high quality language services incorporating:

  • On-site  interpreting
  • Telephone interpreting
  • Translating

Interpreters can be accessed for any patient or family member who is having difficulty gaining all information in English. On most wards, the ward clerk will book the interpreter for you. You will need to provide them with the patient name and UR number, time and date of the assessment and your own contact details.  Bookings can also be made using the on-line intranet booking system.  At least 24 hours notice is required in order to make a booking. Please refer to the Monash Health Interpreting Services Intranet Site for further details.
