Frequently asked questions about Monash Health’s Graduate Program.

What is the difference between the Acute Care and Complex Care Nursing streams?

In the Acute Care stream graduates will be granted one rotation from selected preferences from a range of clinical area options including:

  • General medical
  • General surgical
  • Oncology/pailliative care
  • Gastrosciences
  • Rehabilitation
  • Vascular/plastics/ENT
  • Orthopaedics
  • Neurosciences and stroke
  • Outpatients and diagnostic imaging
  • Paediatrics medical/surgical
  • Newborn services (SCN/NEST)
  • Day treatment areas (day treatment centre, infusion centre, clinical trials centre, chemotherapy day unit)
  • Women’s health and urology

Graduates in the Complex Care stream will be granted one rotation from selected preferences from a range of clinical area options including:

  • Cardiac
  • Peri-operative
  • Emergency
  • Intensive care
  • Renal and hemodialysis
  • Residential and rehabilitation
  • Paediatric and newborn complex care

Graduates may rotate to their preference area in either their first or second clinical rotation. For their other rotation, the graduate may be placed in any clinical area across Monash Health.

Can applicants in the August and Computer Match Ineligible streams nominate specialty preference areas?

Yes. In the Monash Health Graduate Application template applicants for the August and Computer Match Ineligible streams are able to nominate four preference areas from all specialties available at Monash Health. However, while we endeavor to accommodate preferences we are not able to guarantee rotations into preference areas for the August or Computer Match Ineligible Program streams.

Does Monash Health offer a Paediatric Graduate Program stream?

Opportunities for paediatric rotations are offered within both the Acute Care, Complex Care and August streams.

Do I get to choose the Monash Health site where I undertake my rotations?

Graduates are able to rotate across all Monash Health sites. Applicants are given the opportunity to nominate site preferences in the Monash Health Graduate Application template. While we endeavor to accommodate, rotations to preference sites are not guaranteed.

I have never done a placement at Monash Health, will this affect my application?

No. Monash Health welcomes applications from all eligible candidates.

I am not finishing my degree until mid 2020. Should I wait until next year to apply for August 2020 graduate positions?

No. Applicants interested in commencing in August 2020 will be required to apply to the August Stream if eligible for 2019 PMCV Computer Match or to the Computer Match Ineligible August stream. Applications open Monday 10th June 2019.

Applicants will need to select the relevant August stream option on the first page of their Monash Health Graduate Application template and lodge their application in the relevant 2020 Graduate Program job advertisement.  Those applicants that are eligible to participate in PMCV Computer Match will also need to rank Monash Health Graduate Program – August stream as one of their four preferences.

Can I apply for more than one Monash Health Graduate Program stream?

Yes. If you are planning to rank multiple Monash Health Program general nursing and/or midwifery streams in Computer Match, you only need to submit one application to the relevant Monash Health job advertisement. When submitting your application, please ensure that you have indicated all program streams that you are applying for by checking the relevant options provided in the Monash Health Graduate Application template.

I am still waiting for an updated transcript with results from Semester 1, 2019. Can I submit it after applications close?

Yes, as you must submit your application prior to the closing date. We advise you to submit certified copies of the most recent transcript that you have available. Once you receive your up to date transcript you can e-mail this to us at

I am an international student. Am I eligible to apply for the Monash Health Graduate Program?

Yes. Applicants who are ineligible to participate in PMCV Computer Match can apply for Graduate positions through the PMCV Computer Match Ineligible Nursing, Midwifery or Double Degree streams.

Would I have the option to complete an Honours program during my graduate year?

Yes. We encourage our graduates to grow their career and further their knowledge by undertaking an Honours program if they wish to do so.

Do you offer support to Indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Graduate Program applicants?

Yes. Monash Health offers a pathway and dedicated support for Aboriginal Nurses and Midwives. Applicants must still register through PMCV Computer Match and submit an application to the Graduate Program job advertisements via Monash Health e-recruit.
