Health promotion, in a place-based, systems thinking approach recognises that health is not just the result of an individual’s decisions, but is largely shaped and dictated by the places we spend time within.

This approach to health promotion views the places we live, learn, work and play as platforms for change. While also recognising that health and the systems around it are complex and thus require long-term, multi-strategy approaches that grow and change. Health promotion focuses on the population as a whole rather than people at risk of specific diseases, with actions directed to improve the health and wellbeing of the whole community.
