Active OSHC services: Rosewood Downs, TeamKids Berwick Fields, St Thomas The Apostle Cranbourne

In May 2025, OSHC services across Cardinia Shire, Casey, and Greater Dandenong participated in the Make a Move Make a Difference competition, showcasing fun and creative ways to encourage kids to move. The most innovative entries won prizes.

We received fantastic entries from our OSHC services. We’re excited to showcase the inspiring ways the services incorporate physical activity throughout their sessions.

Today, we’re featuring stories from Rosewood Downs Primary School CommunityOSH, TeamKids Berwick Fields Primary School, and St Thomas The Apostle Cranbourne Extend OSHC.

Rosewood Downs Primary School CommunityOSH

At Rosewood Downs PS CommunityOSH, getting the children physically active is almost never a challenge – they’re usually super keen and ready to get moving after afternoon tea. Each day, children spend about an hour outside and enthusiastically participate in a variety of games including line tiggy, octopus, skittles, bob down tag, fruit salad, soccer, basketball, tennis, cricket, and frisbee throwing. The children show great initiative and independence, often forming their own teams and creating games where everyone feels included and able to get involved.

They also enjoy racing each other on bucket stilts, tackling obstacle courses, and playing around in the sand pit. Using their imagination, children invent their own board games and love using chalk to draw and bring their ideas to life on the concrete.

The OSHC program managers also make an effort to join in on the fun, getting involved in the many games the children play. While they might not always be the most skilled players, they try to be active role models and encourage a positive attitude towards physical activity, where it’s about giving it a go, enjoying movement, and having fun together.

TeamKids – Berwick Fields Primary School

In our program, we always plan one active activity and one passive activity. Every day, the children have the opportunity to play active games. The educators get actively engaged with the children in games such as dodgeball, soccer, basketball, goal is up, golden child, footy and different types of tag.

Every morning the children are encouraged to do laps of the oval to ensure they get Vitamin D. Currently, TeamKids have provided a challenge to all their services to participate in the 100 hours of outdoor challenge – we are one of the leading participants. On top of that when the day is nice, we have a picnic outside, and set up many experiences outdoors for the children. We have also supported the school to run their cross country and Colour Run.

St Thomas The Apostle Cranbourne Extend OSHC

At St Thomas the Apostle, Cranbourne (STAPS), physical activity is at the heart of our daily routine. Every day, students and educators come together to enjoy a range of engaging and fun movement-based activities that keep our bodies active and our minds energised.

We’ve created an environment where movement is part of the culture—through games like table tennis, badminton, cricket, and even creative obstacle courses using hula hoops and cones. These activities promote teamwork, coordination, and resilience while encouraging children to explore different ways to move. Our OSHC service makes physical play accessible and enjoyable for all ages and skill levels. Whether it’s a competitive table tennis rally or a group challenge through an obstacle course, every child has the opportunity to participate and feel a sense of achievement.

These activities are not just for exercise—they’re part of how we build friendships, boost confidence, and develop a love for staying active. At STAPS, we truly believe that movement matters, and we’re proud to make it a meaningful part of every day.
