The team at Community Kids Narre Warren has been making the most of the Cooking Together Tub, creating delicious experiences and valuable learning opportunities in the kitchen.
We love seeing how early childhood services bring theory to life—educators, teachers, and cooks sharing their skills and knowledge with children in hands-on, meaningful ways. The Cooking Together Tub equips early learning centres with the essential tools to provide children with a fun and educational cooking experience.
Through these shared experiences, children practice important life skills, like reading recipes, following instructions, measuring ingredients, and weighing food, all while improving their fine motor skills. Cooking also introduces children to various tastes and textures, helping them become more open to trying new foods and learning what works well together. For example, some ingredients shine when combined or cooked a certain way, like bananas in muffins.
Taste preferences evolve at every age, and it’s never too early—or too late—to try something new. Getting children involved in preparing food has been shown to reduce fussiness and increase the likelihood that they’ll enjoy the meals they help create. When children take part in choosing and preparing healthy meals, they form positive associations with food, memories and habits that can last a lifetime.
Who knows? Today’s little chefs might pass their love for cooking to the next generation.
