Dandenong Hospital ED best in Australasia
Dandenong Hospital Emergency Department has been awarded the best Australasian Emergency Department of the Year 2015.
The award - by the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA) – recognises the transformational journey from late 2013 with the introduction of a new model of care, ensuring patients and carers remain at the forefront of care.
Chief Executive Shelly Park said the award recognises the exemplary efforts of the team at Dandenong to champion the new model.
“This is a tribute to the dedication and persistence of the leadership and staff at Dandenong Hospital Emergency Department in responding to the rapid increase of emergency department presentations,” Shelly said.
“This model involved team-based care, upfront timely medical assessment, reductions to queues and waiting times, and whole of hospital engagement. As a result, a significant and sustained improvement occurred in the quality of patient care.”
“I am so proud of the Dandenong ED team and all the Dandenong staff who helped achieve this wonderful success,” Shelly said.
Today, ambulance off load and four-hour performance are among Australia’s best ensuring that patients are receiving the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
Research, strong quality improvement activities and professional development were also recognised in the award.
