The Victorian Oncology Nurse Practitioner Community of Practice (VONPCoP) is a funding initiative of the Nurse Policy Branch division of the Department of Health, Victoria and the Victorian Cancer Action Plan. It was established in December 2009 and is convened by Monash Health.
The Community of Practice’s (CoP) purpose is to assist the health organisations which received funding to develop Oncology Nurse Practitioner models of care, advanced scope of practice, five year plans and to employ an oncology Nurse Practitioner Candidate (NPC) by July 2010.
Previous experience with the development of Nurse Practitioner (NP) roles has shown the collaborative approach contributes to the success of implementing Nurse Practitioner services.
The community of practice aims to create an opportunity for oncology health care service and individuals to share their knowledge, experiences and resources in relation to oncology Nurse Practitioner’s and it is through this sharing that both VONPCoP members will learn from each other and have an opportunity to develop themselves personally and professionally.
The Victorian Oncology Community of Practice membership is open to any organisation interested in the development of Nurse Practitioner services in oncology or becoming a Oncology Nurse Practitioner themselves.
