Central bookings

All materity referrals for for Monash Health hospital sites (Casey, Dandenong & Clayton) need to be faxed centrally to our booking service. Referrals should include the Maternity Booking Referral Template which screens women balancing several factors.  These include; the level of care available at the site, the woman’s residential locality, the hospital site capacity, Monash Health’s maternity demand and together with each woman’s identified preference.

Doctors can advise women that they will be contacted by the call centre within 1 to 2 weeks. Should a woman not hear back from the booking service within this timeframe the referral should be followed up by fax or email enquiry to the call centre.

Email: maternity.bookings@monashhealth.org

As well as faxing this form, please give a copy to your patient along with a referral letter containing any other relevant information, to bring to their first Monash Health appointment.

Maternity regions

The majority of pregnancies and births do not require tertiary care and can be managed at a woman’s nearest maternity hospital. To ensure all women can access the level of maternity care they require, women experiencing low-risk pregnancies should attend their nearest maternity hospital for their pregnancy care.

If a GP thinks a woman needs to go to a tertiary centre (MMC) and they are not the woman’s nearest maternity hospital, her needs must be specified on the referral .

If at any time a woman’s pregnancy becomes complicated, or is considered to be high-risk, she can be referred by Casey or Dandenong Hospital to another Monash Health site. This can be arranged by speaking to the Midwifery Unit Manager at the site the woman is booked to birth at.  Click here for Key Contacts
