Contact with Clinical Agencies
Please contact the O.T. site coordinator at your placement site or your allocated clinical supervisor TWO WEEKS PRIOR to your placement commencement date.
Clinical Placement Hours
Clinical placement hours may vary between sites and should be discussed when you contact your agency prior to commencing your placement.
Lunch breaks/morning tea breaks will vary between sites and should be discussed with your site student coordinator.
Within some of the Community Mental Health settings, therapy staff work shift work and weekends. Please discuss this with your supervisor if this may pose a problem and clarify what is required.
Your university Occupational Therapy Uniform should be worn at all times (unless otherwise stated by your clinical agency).
Within the Mental Health settings, generally no uniform is required, although can be worn. Again please clarify with your site supervisor. If not wearing a uniform, please wear smart casual clothes (refer to Dress Code in Allied Health Student Handbook for more guidelines if unsure).
Your student I.D. must be worn at all times & agency I.D.’s may be required at specific sites.
Discipline services available at each site
The case load at each site depends on the type of service that is offered at that site. Please call your site coordinator to further discuss the service.
Suggested preparation for clinical placements
Please contact your allocated clinical supervisor two weeks prior to your placement to receive the relevant information on what you are required to prepare before commencing. It is recommended that you ask your clinical supervisor if there is any required reading that needs to be completed prior to commencing. Please ensure you are familiar with the Student Handbook prior to starting your placement.
It is suggested for Mental Health Placements that some familiarity with the Mental Health Act and basic knowledge of mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and depression is valuable.
